So I was playing a game of kt earlier and I went up against this team that went ALL LEATHER SHIELDS. Every time i try to attack this dumb item I lose 5 stamina. They get away EVERY TIME. Even if i slow them down i am never able to get enough auto attacks in. The last patch wasn't enough. The stamina degen needs to be at least cut in half. Say a kobold has 400 hp. I have 20 mining and gun and probably do about 44 damage. The enemy probably has about 4-6 armor so my attacks are probably going to do about 37 effective damage. It's going to take me 11 auto attacks to kill this kobold. Depending on what food he has. (Say 0 cooking and 10 roasted lamb) He has 500 health just sitting in his backpack. If he is running away and i am trying to chase i will probably get an auto attack in once every few seconds. The smarter idea would be to wait out his stam then attack him while he is walking. Yet in the end I have still lost about 50 (say 15 auto attacks since some were within the threshold) it had also probably cost me about 50 stamina to chase him. It is extremely difficult to chase or catch a kobold that is using this item. It's such a cheap item and I always make one and keep it in my inventory now so i can get away from any chase (it almost always works unless it get nuked hard). Early game it's even more retarded, because you are essentially immune to being chased by most rushes just by making one of these. This item is broken and needs to be fixed.

Use a spell. Use a pet. Use Forest Trout. Use something that deals lots of damage in few attacks.

The only thing I would change about the leather shield is that it´s effect maybe is disabled for less than 10 stamina. Since currently it is possible to faint just by attacking someone with leather shield, it´s impossible to fight an enemy with it if you have low stamina, and even if you somehow survive the fainting, you are still at low stamina and will faint again a few attacks later if you continue the fight.

Honestly the leather shield has always been my least favorite item... while they do fall off to pets and hard nukes lategame, they make you pretty much untouchable in early game situations. The last nerf wasn't enough my suggestion- nerf the -stamina to at least 2 or remove it completely. Solving the hit somebody and faint problem would still not solve the problem of not being able to chase somebody in a rush

distro: But that is exactly the purpose of this item: Making a rush less effective. The problem is that both the rusher and the defender can use the shield equally effective, so it also allows the rusher to escape unharmed if his rush attempt fails. So I wouldn't change the effectiveness of this item for people who are defending a rush/running away: Passive: Reduces the stamina of attackers by 5. If you attacked yourself within the last 3 seconds, this is reduced to 2 stamina. The effect doesn't apply to people with less than 10 stamina. That is still a huge nerf and would probably make the leather shield to one of the least used items again (really the only time when it's effective is when you see you are getting rushed, but still have the time to craft something). But I can see why people find it's effect so annoying, so I guess the change would still be justified. Please don't argue that the shield would still make rushing less effective. That is EXACTLY the purpose, and if it at least makes people think twice before ruining a game with a 3-man-rush, then it's existence is already justified.

How would a rush ruin a game? Rushing is one of perhaps 3 strategies available for the game (the others being quest control and hard tech). Removing that option just makes the game more predictable (and boring).
I agree with the poster that the leather shield is a really annoying item. I would by far prefer the way it was originally, that it stuns the attacker when health gets low.

I know that rushing is a valid and probably necessary strategy in many games, but just like in normal Starcraft, it isn´t a very admired one, at least not by the team that gets rushed. There is not much that can defend a well-coordinated (with that I mean everyone get´s equipment and maybe a spell, no real "strategy" required) rush from multiple players. You can either go for low art gear yourself or simply run away. Teching is no option, because as soon as you start crafting something, the enemy can come in and either destroy the workbench or simply kill you (a turret can´t defend against a single kobold, not to mention two or three of them). Also, there are far less scouting options in KT than in regular SC, so usually you won´t see a rush incoming before the enemy is already there (unless you get a lucky day one bird or buy scan first night).
So what I want to say with that is that rushing is a possibility and I accept that, but giving the one getting rushed at least a chance to escape thanks to the leather shield seems more than fair to me. If rushes would be too ineffective, then it wouldn´t happen in 90% of all inhouse games (even with the 5 stamina burn from leather shield).

The other thing I see is that if a rush fails, the rushers usually just rage quit at that point - and that means that a lot of people never even got the chance to do anything, yet the game is basically over due to the actions of a few players who managed to waste the time of others - I would prefer to discourage this scenario from happening, as there isn't that much you can do about people going for the "easy" or "instant gratification" strategy and then getting frustrated fast when things don't go their way other than making it less easy to pull off.

Well if you rush you still can take out their bases, so you destroy like on outpost, tavern, smithy, work bench and thats already pushing your enemy back one day. You force them to retreat and if there is quest now they won't have time to make gear for that quest (cos they need to make craft-buildings) and you have bought yourself a lot of time. And during night they can't have shield, right?
