Recently the biggest change we have seen in a while was the "Return of the Chef" change bringing potions and some new items and plenty of other changes focused around the cooking talents. I loved these changed. Although potions are a complex issue i still loved how much of a change this brought and the complexity it still brings as people try to figure out what is really the best after each fix or nerf or buff you might happen to do.
So next i ask for the "Return of the Fishermen". Basically right now fishing is really in need of a change. It is too random. It is one of the craziest rng things in the game and while we all desire a fish at one time or another during the game, or perhaps a murlocket, it is all rng based and uncontrollable to pick one fish during each cast. I don't ask that we change it to this.
No, i have a better idea, I think we should add ponds to the game that each perhaps contain a set kind of fish that change throughout the game. Perhaps every 5 levels of foraging you have should allow you to identify what fish are in what pond at a given time and to aim your cast at where the fish are in the pond if that makes sense. For example we have a square pond lets say. There are 4 kinds of fish in the pond. To see them all you need 25 foraging. This is because one is a 5 foraging fish the others are 10 15 and 25 respectively. Once you have obtained sight of the fish you know where to cast to get said fish if that makes sense. Now to make it tricky lets say there is a chance to get some of the rarer fish by castings into a mysterious part of the pond.
Theoretically lets say you have a 50% of getting a rare fish and 50% chance of getting a not so good fish like a toxic frog(but maybe add a fish that just heals a minimal amount like cooked lamb or something). This is just theoretical, but the point is we need to make fishing more controllable. I chose identifying what is in the pond by each level of 5 because it mirrors the leveling system and it also mirrors how artisanship works. But perhaps we could change the game completely and not make it by 5's. Maybe one at 8 or one at 32 to add incentive to go above and beyond the normal 25 limit of points you put into a skill to get a really stinking good fish when you really really need it. Perhaps in each area of the game there are different kinds of ponds.
There is a marshy area in the game in the southwest. a rocky area in the northeast kind of. and there is the lava in the northeast also. I think that these 3 areas should be important. Right now the only thing forcing players from the opposing side to come together is quests. Perhaps we should add other mechanics to do so. Perhaps the lava in the northeast contains a rare fish in its pond. I'm not talking rare as the murlocket but rare enough to spend some time up there. This fish should perhaps give a DOT buff to your weapons burning the opponents and shredding armor.
This is just an idea. All I'm saying is why not make some areas of the map contain these ponds that have incentives to go to and are in contested areas like the middle or close to the shrines. This was there are other incentives to meet up, so to speak, between the 2 opposing teams. This idea was inspired by a build i attempted a few games in a row. During these games I was completely seriously attempting to only fish to help my teammates in fights. I got a few fish that did allow me to control how the game worked. The fish that allows you to call down rain let me do this. This in a way called of early rushers and allowed my team mates to live to fight another day because if i called it down before a bad fight was about to occur it would kind of cause both teams to back off.
My point being fishing could definitely play a role in a meta change. Make is so that fish you have can change team fights in more ways then just the buffs they give. Make it so that i can get these fish in some sort of controlled method with the right foraging levels. Maybe add some more items like you did during the cooking meta. Right now the only items affecting fishing are night crawlers. Fishing rods, including the quest one. And that's about it. Why not add something a bit more? All I'm asking for is a change.
