Too many times have I played only to have new players chase me and run out of stamina/get baited. Too many times they ask me how I got away and say that how I did was a cheap move. This is my knowledge of chasing scenarios, as they ALWAYS decide the outcome of a fight and whether the fight will even happen or not.
1. Assess first, then act
This one is quite simple. When you see an enemy kobold that you think you can kill, there are many questions that must first run through your mind.
What is their stamina and what is mine?
If I chase will I be able to catch them?
Am I being baited? Where is the last place I saw the other tribe?
Do they have the materials to block me with buildings?
How can I gain an advantage over their stamina or vice versa?
(Affliction, Forestry with trees, Art with buildings, ect)
What skill points do they have? It is easier to chase somebody with foraging than forestry or mining.
If they have mining they most likely have adrenaline up.
If they have forestry they can cut down trees.
How much energy to they have? How much do I have?
If they have more shadow cloak time they will most likely get ahead you. They can also use affliction to burn your stamina
Can a teamate scan for me?
This is essential! If the enemy has more energy than you they will just cloak away without an ally to scan.
Ever since the last patch scans also apply a slow to the enemy kobold, allowing you to close the distance more easily.
What happens if they turn on me?
2. The Chase
Assuming you have the answers to all of these questions, you have chosen to chase.
The first thing you want to do is close the distance. Whether it's by face hugging them with shadow cloak or using potions to slow them down. If you dont close the distance they will ALWAYS block you with buildings. They can't build on top of you if you close the distance.
*If you are cloaked but have not closed the distance, close the distance before breaking cloak. It costs far more energy to use cloak all over again.*
Every time the enemy tries to cut down a tree with forestry, steal it from them. If your damage inst enough to steal it make sure to get some free attacks in. *If they gain a significant stamina advantage over you don't be afraid to abandon the chase. It is often better to be safe than to being baited into their buddy/turrets/spikes.
If you have an ally that can cut the enemy off somewhere, have them set up palisades in a choke so the enemy cannot walk straight passed them. This is however risky because you can not always predict where the enemy is going to run.
Keep an eye out for potions! Potions are very powerful tools in chasing but they are also dodge able to a certain point.
There are 4 Skills that have a way of gaining stamina.
Art: Place buildings.
If you or the enemy has a lot of mats and a lot of art, they will be able to run for a long time
Pro tip: shift queue your buildings so you dont have to stop to place them down.
Forestry: Cut down trees.
Always try to steal trees from your enemy if you deal more damage than them
Mining: Adrenaline Rush. ALWAYS SAVE THIS FOR WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF WARMTH too many scrubs waste adrenaline rush at night when they still have more warmth, only to run out later. When you are at 0 warmth you are saving STAMINA AND WARMTH by using adrenaline. *Adrenaline does not slow or stop warmth decay*
There is also a 10% speed boost that you can use to close distance.
Cooking: Stag Stew: Always check if the enemy has these in their inventory, they make a huge difference,
Forest trout: Just like stag stew but it is obtained from fishing. look for these as well.
USE CLEANSING DRAUGHTS
Ok ok... These things are so underrated. Here are a few things they can do.
1. Purge slow scan debuff
2. Purge affliction
3. Purge stuns
4. (Untested but I believe that it works) Purge potion effects.
5. Make The RAB stop shooting orbs at you
6. Make a bird stop following you
7. Just about any other debuff or negative status effect.
3. Go for the kill
Assuming that you have caught up to the enemy kobold because you have gained a stamina advantage and they have been forced to walk begin giving them everything you got. Use affliction to keep their stamina down rather than shadow cloak to do more damage. (Affliction does more damage in the end anyways and can also make them faint while walking if their stamina is low enough)
Make sure to have your teamate keep scanning them for the slow. SPIKE TRAPS ARE EVERYWHERE too.
Finish them off - whenever they're in snipe range of shadow cloak I suggest that you do it. You never know when on of their buds could come heal them with GS or mysterious spoon.
4. Take their gear. Sell their stuff. GET OUT.
When the chase is over you are most likely vulnerable in more than one way.
You are likely low on stam and food. It is also likely that you are missing a significant amount of health.
You need to get out as fast as possible but you must first erase every trace of the enemy
The first thing I do is pick up the valuables. (quest items are always in purple/red auras! Look for the glow and pick those up first.) There is no point in killing somebody when they can easily get their gear back.
After the valuables have been secured, you want to make an outpost. Use the outpost to sell of their resources and send their less valuable gear back to your team. (I always take speed beavers).
Once you are finally done gathering all of their gear and selling their mats, you have done it! But remember to get out unless you know you could fight their tribe.
I hope this cleared up chasing scenarios for some of you out there.
I dont want to see people fainting in front of me or getting baited anymore:P!
