Hey Broot! I assumed the forums would be flooded with these posts, but here I am and I cannot find one. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place? Let me know, or move thread to the correct section;
THE NEW UI SUUUUUUCKS. SO BAD. Things are missing, can't see control groups, can't click on your status box to center on your kobold, so many things. I haven't found a single person ok with it. I don't mean to be rude or overly critical, you probably put a lot of work into it and the icons themselves are actually very nice (the actual image files that I downloaded, they're not nice in game because you can barely see them). If you insist on a new UI, pretty pretty please switch back to the old one until this one's a little more polished up?
While playing KT several people were complaining about the placement of the inventory/backpack, like it covers too much of the screen or something. It does seem to be a little closer to the center of the screen than off to the side, but I didn't personally mind this, just thought I'd include that.
Also, the quests are broken? They stop popping after a few. I miss my questing man.
The new AI difficulty options, LOVE the idea. But they're really buggy. Very selective about what gear they use, if they lose a piece they never craft another, most times they don't even bother to pick up quest items (I lost in arena quest this morning, the AI in there left the garb on the ground, he preferred his huntsman?) They're still useable, but it would be really cool if one of those difficulty options could actually just be the AI from previous versions?
Anyway, let me know your thoughts if you get some time. I've only been playing again for a week so idk how actively you're still working on the map, but if you are still going at it I'll happily send you a fat donation.

This is only a test version of the UI showcase I'm currently making, I'll still add explanations and there are a few more features to show you, but since it takes me so long to make all of this (mostly due to RL stuff), I can't tell for sure when I'll be done. Everything you see is just video editing and not even Broot has seen it yet, so absolutely no guarantee that any of this can or will be implemented. UI Showcase testversion

To Seitan/Lorenor, and anyone else interested in taking up my mantle: go ahead. Although I do sneak up on the forums time to time, any passion I've used to have for KT is gone. Anyone who cares enough about the mod will know what they need to do to make it better. A lot of the things I did for KT, I only did trying to make it the most exciting game I personally wanted to play. Some things have succeeded, some have failed - well deep down, I know I tried my best . As for the UI, I like pretty things and I honestly think it's the right direction for more immersion as a lot of default SC2 UI and structures make me cringe. I think a lot of the criticism coming for the UI is mostly people being unhappy about some information alignment, sizing, and organization. It's pretty easy to make that modifiable for users if you know what you're doing, but I guess that's not really my concern now, no offense to the people who care. There are a lot of cool data/scripting tips and tricks that I've left in KT, and I guess some UI modding templates as well. On first glance it will be pretty confusing, since Qan used purely GUI and I only used pure Galaxy. Some of them are outdated and I've found better methods of doing them, but they should still be somewhat helpful. Anyways anyways anyways, I'm sure there is someone out there who will do a better job than I did - I hope 'your version' succeeds and becomes the new most played. Good luck to whoever this or these individuals may be.

For people who are interested in working on the game more. I know of a few bugs that are present, would you like me to report the specifics on them so you can look into whether you can fix them?

I think it'd be the easiest way if we just make the "Bugs&Errors" forum visible to everyone again. Neither Broot nor I are very active (and on top of that, I have not the slightest idea how to fix any of the bugs), so it's better if anyone (especially Seitan) can see all of the posts there.
Going to change the settings for now. If you have any objections, let me know.

Godspeed Broot.
As for these UI. I think its just a matter of time before people get used to it. My issue with it is that my eyes naturally dart over to places where things used to be: seeing nothing, looking down at my hands, and just feeling a little bit gross.

I can't figure out why the quests are broken I don't suppose you have any ideas why they might be broken? And if I haven't said it before, you are my hero. You pretty much single-handedly pulled my favorite game out of the trash can back when it broke from that big sc2 update, and made it something awesome again. The new additions I still thing are mind blowing. So thanks for everything you have done, I may have sounded ungrateful in my first post, and that's definitely not how I feel

I actually can't stand this new UI. I played maybe a year ago, a lot with some friends. Now the UI is so terrible I have to re-learn everything, and the new UI is smaller so you have to become a master at hotkeys instead of playing using buttons if you wanted. Its harder to find stuff I used to have and some of it doesn't even seem to exist anymore, but I can't be sure because the UI is so bad I can't find jack squat.
I really wish there was a way we could toggle the game on our end to use whichever UI we prefer. I like the old UI, and wish I had the option to use it. Its so bad that I actually had to register here to say so, and I hate registering places like this.
EDIT: You should see the massive amount of bad reviews the map is getting, only from the UI change. This map was great before that. My suggestion for the UI, is to allow users to select a race to choose a UI. Zerg for the new UI, Terran for the old one? I dunno. Unless you can do it in game with a toggle that saves to the user's account or whatever. Even if it ends up requiring the map to be restart to take effect. I dunno. I just want a toggle, so that everyone's happy, those who like the new UI and ones who want the old UI.

Running real smooth at the moment, and most players have switched over to it. AI is more balanced, actually makes an effort to revive teammates, and is more "in-line" with the difficulty option you select. Too many tweaks, bug fixes, and new features to mention here, might as well check it out for yourself.

I made a new topic somewhere else but didn't post here; new version online, 'Kobold Tribes S'. Fixed the quests of course, and some other things. I'm updating it regularly and have gotten pretty good feedback, but would love to hear more. Unfortunately, the community isn't what it use to be, and I'm really taking that into consideration. What really got me into Kobold Tribes years ago was that I didn't HAVE to have other players to play against/with, and if I wanted to, I could just add AI or whatever I wanted, so I could learn and practice at my own pace, and wasn't at the mercy of whether other players were online or not. I think that's what sets it apart from almost the entire SC2 arcade selection. So hopefully players (and obviously myself) will be able to enjoy themselves with fewer players online, and likely without the teamwork we use to see in the days of 'inhouse'. Or even alone.
My biggest project I'm currently finishing the base for is a new Survival game mode. I've had a few players test it with me, mostly Reborn (a huge thanks, and shoutout to one of the best and most loyal players this game has ever seen), and will soon be looking for other players to help me test it. It's sort of aimed at veteran players, or anyone looking for a challenge. You win by surviving until the morning of a specific day. Enemies scale much quicker and higher than in the normal kt, with lots of challenges thrown in, especially the last three days. At this point the main challenge is balancing the scaling just right. I only code in galaxy script, don't use triggers, and it's difficult to really interpret how the equations used for scaling are going to actually turn out in-game. I have this feeling that it's just missing something, not quite sure exactly what, but I think I'll find it. I have a lot of fun just testing it myself. But this is where Qancakes (and maybe Broot, but I was unfortunately inactive for the majority of his updates) have turned to the KT community to see what they would enjoy, or any ideas they have. Feel free to respond, message me, or contact me in-game if you have anything to say. Taking the map solely in the direction I enjoy is not what I want, as really there is literally NOTHING I'd rather see again that the games, community, and teamwork we use to see regularly in the Qancakes era. So don't be shy. You can even email me if you want (see below). Hope to hear from the players and hope you all keep enjoying Kobold Tribes.

Yea, I found S, but I think the original version should be updated with multiple UI options, allowing each player to select their chosen UI. I actually have ideas for a hybrid UI that combines both, but it'd be a whole lot of work even if I had the source files to work with. I have difficulty with the game as is though, I tend to always loose 1vAI, and when I do 2vAI its kinda hit and miss. You could add me on bNet if you want and help me figure it out better, if you wanted. Vas#1677 But yea, the UI really should be user choice, if possible. I think it is possible, because I know I've seen maps that can rewrite the UI while in game to use an alternate one. I think I even saw one that erases the whole Terran UI and replaces it with Zerg when a certain event happened.

Vas there is NOTHING about the new UI that is worth having. You can only use it as an experienced player and having more than 300 games of KT under the new UI I still forget key combinations. The Life points in the new UI are Very hard to keep track of and in a fight its useless. The Time of Day icon is nothing but a distraction, its a blob in the middle of the screen. New players to KT and I have played with a few all say the same thing, the icons being so small it just becomes a game of frustration when you are trying to do simple things like build a forge or workbench or storage outpost. The most basic items needed in the game.
Saitan is 1000% right when in one of his posts he points out that KT is probably one of the only arcade games that allows you as a player to play solo and learn the game solo without waiting for other players to join. We must make the game easy to use and enjoyable. That will get more players. The New UI is NOT it....
Sorry Vas I'm not busting on you but every time I see someone who actually likes the new UI or wants a pick and choose UI I would like to remind them that they want an interface that is Difficult, Unorganized, and Frustrating to use even for an experienced player and to a novice its hopeless...

If the new UI is user choice, then it doesn't matter if its not something you'd like. It allows the users to select which interface they use and gives them the choice. Which is why I'm thinking if its based on race, we could do the old UI for Terran, a Hybrid of the two for Protoss, and the new UI entirely for Zerg. Since race selection doesn't actually matter anyway. Of course you don't even need to use race selections. You can add a new set of options to the picker, UI: Original, Hybrid, New. Then each user pre-game can select their UI with default being Original. I actually have a great idea for a hybrid UI that combines the best of both UIs. I'd just need access to the source files, I believe. I've never done anything with UIs though in map making. I guess I could use some screenshots instead to show these guys what I think would be a good hybrid UI but that'd be a lot of photo editing.

I agree with Vas, although for the most part the new UI is objectively worse and harder to use, there's no reason to really scrape it if even one person likes it. Leaving it as an option doesn't hurt any one. A hybrid of the two UI's sounds interesting, if Vas was willing to put the work in for it I see no reason to not include such a thing as an option given it provided sufficient merit.
